Role Purpose
The sunflower breeder will support the mid-early temperate breeding program by focusing on the delivery of sunflower variety for Mid-Early Temperate market segment. The job holder will also play a role in the market segment team dedicated to this Mid-Early temperate market segment.
Accountabilities

As breeder, will be responsible for:

• Breeding projects definition and follow-up to:
  • Define new breeding populations to initiate for Mid-Early Temperate program with breeding objectives
  • Define new specific hybrids dedicated to Mid-Early Temperate market segment
  • Define testing plan for these hybrids for yield and diseases
  • Evaluate them to propose candidates to product placement team through field observation and trial analyses
  • Ensure that information regarding lines profile is correct and use in proper way for hybrid production
  • Propose list of lines for conversion with traits to introgress.

• Planification & Coordination with operations for:
  • Plan these activities in a dedicated way and communicate with the operations
  • Coordinates breeding activities with operations teams in East territory
  • Coordinates actions with Broomrape specialist or Trait development team for implementation of specific projects
  • Participate to the different process review in aim to improve our process

• Development new tools and process:
  • Implement new traits develop by Trait Development Team
  • Implement new molecular markers and new technologies, such as genomic selection, developed by Applied Genetic Scientist team in the breeding scheme
  • Participate to new IS tools development or new initiatives within Syngenta as sunflower germplasm development team member.

As Member of Market Segment Team, will:

• Participate in the market segment team to share his knowledge of products to support advancement decision
• Support the Sunflower Product Placement & Marketing team by evaluating hybrid performance, market potential, of own and external hybrids. Interactive work with Portfolio Managers, Territory commercial leads and Territory R&D functions
• Participate in meetings and field days with key customers to represent Syngenta products and Seeds Product Development
• (As appropriate for the country) May provide governance of promotion of new candidates into official registration trials in support of Product Placement Scientist; visit and evaluate official trials as appropriate.

As Member of Germplasm Development Team, will:

• Share experiences, results and best germplasm inside the global Syngenta sunflower breeding team to maximize the synergies
• Gathering all information relative to germplasm development, new technologies, make proposals to implement them in line with the breeding strategy. Ensure that implementation process is done on effective and proper view
• Assure data integrity in existing systems
• Support notation activities inside the team for nurseries, hybrid productions, yield and disease trials.

As Syngenta collaborator, will:

• Operate in line with Regulatory, Health Safety Environment and Process standards

Knowledge & Experience

• Follow up of the evolution of plant breeding technologies
• Generation of critical data and information to support breeding and business objectives and checking of the liability of the information collected and distributed
• Strong organizational skills to complete large field programs
• Successful interaction with peers, technical management and product placement team
